Gibson Les Paul Studio Guitar
An excellent bang for your buck

The Gibson Les Paul Studio guitar is an excellent instrument. Its has all the high quality of its big brother the Gibson Standard but, its $1000.00 less. This is certainly a case of less is better. The Les Paul Studio hit the market in 1983 primarily for studio musicians, hence, the name. Its has all the traditional quality of the Les Paul Standard but with, no frills. It has quickly become one of the all time favorites because of its rich tone quality and traditional sonic harmonics.

The Les Paul Studio comes in four finishes to choose from Fire burst, Wine Red, Ebony and Classic White. Gibson does not use polyurethane but rather they use a nitrocellulose finish that allows the natural vibration of your guitar. The Nitro finish is very porous and will get thinner over time to allow the wood of the guitar to age more naturally as it should. The Studio comes with the traditional rounded neck profile. but, is thicker and more rounded than the Les Paul Standard. Each neck is machined and milled then the fingerboard is glued on, after that, everything else is done by hand which, gives each guitar its own unique feel and sound.

The Pickups are 490T and 490R ( the T is for ‘treble’ and the R is for ‘rhythm’) and Gibson has made two key modifications. The 490’s can be connected to a push pull knob so that you can split the coils to increase your sound versatility and secondly, they take advantage of wax potting to do away with any air space in the pickup and does away with microphone feedback.. which is extremely annoying, when your trying to get thru a performance and you have the never ending ‘blow your ears out’ feedback. The bridge pick up is a Gibson 498T which replaces the Alnico II magnet with the Alnico V and makes it a bit hotter in the mid range and highs.

The body has a solid mahogany back with the maple top glued on. This gives the Gibson Studio a tonal balance unique to this guitar. In the end, you have a comfortable light weight guitar that’s, louder and has more sustain and resonance. I would recommend these great guitars to anyone that wants to play any style from rock, blues, jazz and any in between. For the price you get a hell of a deal, really.
